170. ELMER5 E. FLEMING (Joseph4, John3, Daniel2, John1); born 10 February 1862 in Grand Valley, Eldred Township, Warren County; died 1 February 1930,797 buried Mt. Collins Cemetery, Tionesta, Pennsylvania, Tionesta Township, Forest County;798 married 2 April 1893 in Frewsburg, Chautauqua County, New York, ANNA LORRAINE FOSTER,799 born 2 April 1872 in Warren, Conewango Township, Pennsylvania; died 1 January 1929; buried in Mt. Collins Cemetery. 800 Anna’s parents were Robert and Margaret McCoy Foster.801

Elmer Ellsworth Fleming was probably named after Elmer Ellsworth, a Civil War hero. Elmer’s parents moved to Fleming Hill (Harmony Township, Forest County), about 1865.802 According to Forest County Pioneers: “In 1896 Elmer traveled 900 miles on horseback from Meeker, Colorado, to Seattle, Washington to further business in oil and gold–minding.” In 1900, 1910 and 1920, Elmer, wife Anna and children were enumerated in Tionesta Township, Forest County,803 where in 1920, Elmer was listed as an oil producer.

GERALD E. FLEMINGS ANNIVERSITY GUESTS Miss Marilyn Fleming, Philadelphia, was hostess for a delightful dinner party Sunday at Jackson Heights Restaurant to mark the 30th wedding anniversary of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Fleming. Those in attendance were . . . Miss Marguerite Fleming [see #334], Warren; . . .—Warren Times Mirror, 22 August 1957.

In 1930, Gerald was single and living with his parents, at which time he was enumerated as an oil producer. For many years, Gerald was in the Income Tax Service business in Warren Pennsylvania. Gerald had in his possession the letter from John H. Fleming to his son Joseph, published in Stepping Stones”, Warren County (Pennsylvania) Historical Society, January 1966.

MARILYN FLEMING ON SINGING TOUR
Miss Marilyn Fleming, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Fleming, 102 Quaker road, will be spending her Thanksgiving vacation as a member of the Choral Society of the University of Pennsylvania, which is the official chorus of the Philadelphia Orchester.
This group will appear at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia November 23 and 24, and at Carnegie Music Hall, New York City, November 27, singing Verdi's 'Requiem" under the direction of Eugene Ormandy.

  333 ii. John F. Fleming; born circa 1903 in Pennsylvania; probably did not marry.806, 807 In 1930, John was head of household with his sister Marguerite D. Fleming in Tionesta Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania (page 2A), where John was enumeratde as salesman in a meat market.
  334 iii. Marguerite Dorothy Fleming; born circa 1916 in Pennsylvania; died October 1964; no information on a husband,808,  buried Mt. Collins Cemetery, Tionesta, Pennsylvania.809 Margaret was a graduate of Edinboro State College and for many years taught grade school in Warren, Pennsylvania, two schools being the South School and Jefferson School.810 In 1930, Marguerite was living with her brother John Fleming in Tionesta Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania, where she was enumerated as teacher in a public school.

171. EDNA5 E. FLEMING (Joseph4, John3, Daniel2, John1); born June 1864 in Pennsylvania, died 1923; married EDWARD (or EDWIN) BRADFORD HEAD,811 born November 1852 in Pennsylvania. In 1900, 1910, and 1920 Edwin, Emma and children were living in Harmony Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania, where Edwin was enumerated as farmer.812

  335 i. Harry6 H. Head;  born 9 February 1884; died August 1966 (last residence: Tidioute, Forest County, Pennsylvania); married Martha [—?—];813; born circa 1890 in Pennsylvania. In 1920 (page 5A) and 1930 (PAGE 5A), the family was living in Harmony Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania, where Harry was enumerated as an engineer (stationary) in 1920 and a pumper oil [wells] in 1930.

  338 iv. Edwin Clarence Head (twin); born 6 July 1890 in West Hickory (near Titusville) Pennsylvania; married Florence B. [—?—]; born circa 1896 in Pennsylvania. In 1910, single and living with his parents, Clarence was enumerated as a scarfer in a barge yard (possibly one who straps or bolts pieces together); in 1920, Clarence was listed as a machinist (page 17A); in 1930 as a laborer in a refinery (page 4A); and 1942 (re his World War II Draft Registration Card) as working for Strutters Wells Corporation, Titiuville, Pennsylvania.

  339 v. Esther F. Head.; born April 1894; in 1920, Esther, single, was living with her parents in Harmony Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania.



172. ETTA5 ELIZABETH FLEMING (Joseph4, John3, Daniel2, John1); born 28 July 1866 in Pennsylvania; died 27 November 1950;815 buried in Mt. Collins Cemetery,816 Tionesta Township, Forest County; married, 25 June 189?, JOHN SUMNER VAIL, born July 1865 in New York; died 1957; buried in Mt. Collins Cemetery.

John’s parents were Sumner and Anna [—?—] Vail, who in 1880 were living in Southwest Township, Warren County with sons John and Harry Vail.817 When they were married, both Etta and John were from West Hickory, Hickory Township, Forest County.818 In 1900, 1910, and 1920, the family was enumerated in Harmony Township, Forest County.819 John was enumerated as a wholesale dealer in 1900, a lumber manufacturer in 1910, and as farmer in 1920. In 1930 John and Etta were living by themselves in Tionesta Township, Forest county, Pennsylvania (page 4A), where John S. was listed as a proprietor of a meat market.

Vail; borm 20 January 1901 in Pennsylvania; died December 1987 (last residence: Tionesta, Forest County, Pennsylvania); married Ernestine Bowman;821,822 born 4 January 1903; died May 1978 (last residence: Tionesta, Forest County, Pennsylvania) in Pennsylvania. In 1930, Kenneth, Ernestine and daughter Frances were living in Tionesta Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania , where Kenneth J. was enumerated as a butcher in a meat market (page 3).

173. JOSEPHINE 5 [Elmira?823] FLEMING (Joseph4, John3, Daniel2, John1); born 11 February 1868 in Pennsylvania; married MARTIN LAMEY WEIKAL, born 29 August 1861.824

From Leeson, Michael. 1890. History of the Counties of McKean, Elk and Forest, Pennsylvania, with bibliographical selections of representative citizens, 970 pages, J. H. Beers and County, Chicago, page 907:

Joseph Fleming was killed just a few months before his daughter Josephine was born by his colt three miles northeast of East Hickory in Dec. 1867. [This was two months before Mary Ann gave birth to Josephine Fleming.]
Josephine at the time of her marriage was from East Hickory, Forest County, and Michael Weikal was from Dempseytown, Oakland Township, Venango County.825 In 1900, Martin, Josephine and family were living in Harmony Township, Forest County, Pennsylvania (page 4A), where Michael was farming. When Josephine made application for membership in the DAR in 1929, she was living in Reno (Sugarcreek Township),Venango County, Pennsylvania. In 1930, Michael, Josephine, and daughter Morcedia(?) were living in Sugarcreek Township, Venango Couny, Pennsylvania where Michael was enumerated as a merchant, grocery store (page 8A).

Michael Lamey Weikal was probably related to the Michael Lamey family of Oakland Township that intermarried with the McClintocks. Josephine became a DAR member in 1929, claiming her great great grandfather John Fleming (#1).826

  345 iii. Maxwell F. Weikal; born September 1895; married Edna Galmish; born 28 September 1897 in Pennsylvania; died January 1974, last residence being Reno, Venango County, Pennsylvania (Social Security Death Index). Edna was a daughter of Alexander and Amelia (Winkler) Galmish.

In 1930, the family was living in Reno, Sugar Creek Township, Venango County, where Max F. Weikal was listed as a pumper of oil leases.
One child known from the 1930 federal census was
(a) Maxine Weikal, born circa 1920 in Pennsylvania.

PARTY HELD FOR MAXINE WEIKAL
Miss Maxine Weikal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Weikal of Reno, was honored at a miscellaneous shower on Wednesday evening given by Miss Anna Stephens and Miss Marian Neely at the Neely residence in Reno. Miss Weikjal is to become the bride of Sgt. Carl Sollinger, of Rocky Grove, and now stationed in Mississippi. The wedding will take place June 8.. . . —Oil City Derrick (Oil City, Pennsylvania), 4 June 1943; online in the "Stories" section of ancestry.com.

  346 iv. Melgar Calvin Weikal; born February 1897; married Lillian [—?—]; born circa 1900 in Pennsylvania. In 1930 Melgar and Lillian, no children listed, were living in Cranberry Township, Venango County, Pennsylvania, where Melgare was listed as a driller of oil wells.
  NN v. Morcedia Weikal (daughter); born circa 1910 in Pennsylvania. In 1930, Morcedia, single and living with her parents, was enumerated as a stenographer for the Motor Club.
