In 1880, Daniel and Mary F. were living with Daniel's parents in Clarion, Clarion County, Pennsylvania (page 81), where Daniel was listed as a law student. Daniel died of tuberculosis while a law student at Allegheny
College, Meadville, Pennsylvania, leaving his wife Mary Frances with
their one-year old daughter.

Challener, Jr., born 1901—both in Pennsylvania), who were living with William in 1920, when William, listed as a widower and an attorney, was living in Pittsburgh, Pennsylania (page 3A).
In 1910, Flora Winnifred, single, was living with her Delo grandparents in Clarion, Pennsylvania, where Winnifred was enumerated as a public school teacher. In 1920, Flora, single, was living as a boarder in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was enumerated as a high school teacher (page 7A). In 1930, William, Winnifred and son Richard were living in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, where William was enumerated as an attorney (page 27A).

(i) Richard Delo Challener, born 15 January 1923, died 23 September 2002. Richard was a professor of history at Princeton University where his specialty was "American diplomatic and military history;" he was chair of the history department, associate dean of the college, and clerk of the faculty. He chaired the committee on Canadian studies. His books include The French Theory of the Nation in Arms 1866-1940, and Admirals, Generals and American Foreign Policy 1898-1914. He served on the boards of the local Riverside School, The Hun School (as chair), and Stuart School, and as a Middle States commissioner. He was elected honorary member of the Class of '94. He is survived by Martha, his wife of 55 years, three children, Catherine Challener, Elisbeth Challener, and Daniel Challener, and three grandchildren. His classmates will miss him." Caroline Jane, although the 1880 federal census reports Caroline Jane
born in New York, whereas the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses report
Willie’s mother born in Illinois (instead of Iowa where Frances was
reported born in all censuses).
In 1910, Willie and family were living next door to Livingston
and Frances; in 1920 and 1930 the family was in Lincoln, Nebraska,
where Willie was enumerated as a farmer.830

MISSING IN ACTION
Red Oak—Mra. Ellen Bredberg has received word from the war department that her son, Sgt. Virgil Vernon Bredberg, who was overseas since February, has been missiing in France since July 7. He was inducted into the arny April 2, 1942, leaving his mother's farm. His wife resides with his [sic] sister, Mrs. Earl Clymer at Elliott.— (Council Bluffs, Iowa), 9 August 1944; online in the "Stories" section of ancestry.com.
WALKED TWO MONTHS IN ORDER TO GET HOME
Red Oak, (AP)—Walking for almost two months after he was liberated from German prison camp, Sgt. Virgil Bredberg finally rejoined American forces and Thursday had reached his destination—home in Red Oak.
The sergeant was captured near Cherbourg, France, last July and was freed by the Russians Jan. 31. He walked 90 miles to get out of Germany and started across Poland, eventually reaching American lines where transportation to the United States was arranged.

widow, was living with her married daughter, Eleanore, in Lakewood
Township, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.832 Also with the family
in 1910 was Stella Taylor, cousin, born circa 1876 in Pennsylvania.
