Hugh Fleming Clifford, born 9 December 1931 in Warren (Warren County), Pennsylvania; grew up in Kane (McKean County), Pennsylvania; graduated from Kane High School in 1949.

1950-1954. U. S. Navy; Honorable Discharge, August 1954, Petty Officer (Sonarman) Second Class.

1958. B. Sc. Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan (Fisheries and Wildlife).

1959. M. Sc. Michigan State University (Fisheries and Wildlife).

1960-1962. Fisheries Biologist, Missouri Conservation Commission, Columbia, Missouri.

1965. Ph. D. Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana (Limnology).

1965-1994. From Assistant Professor to Professor, Department of Zoology, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Major courses taught were invertebrate zoology and aquatic biology courses. Major research was on the biology of mayflies (Ephemeroptera) and aquatic ecology of streams.
